New Zealand Post House

Client: Hawkins Group/ Hawkins 2017 Limited

2014 - Ongoing

New Zealand Post House has been At Pace Solutions most significant project to date. Throughout the duration of the renovation works, At Pace Solutions has been contracted by Hawkins Construction to carry out a variety of asbestos removal scopes to provide a safe work environment for other trades.

Below are a number of asbestos removal scopes which were carried out by At Pace Solutions in the New Zealand Post House.

Northern Low Rise Goods Lift

The renovations the northern low rise goods lift in the New Zealand Post House were to be decommissioned and converted into storage cupboards on levels 1 to 4. They were to be completely deconstructed at ground level to allow for the construction of bathroom and parent facilities.

Located behind the wall linings on the structural beams of the lift shaft was sprayed on limpet asbestos material. This material had migrated throughout the lift shaft requiring it to be stripped back as a contaminated environment. The lift shaft ran adjacent to live floors within the building requiring the development of a thorough asbestos removal control plan to ensure the safety of building tenants working adjacent to the asbestos removal area.

The lift car, ropes, counter weights and lift motor equipment were decommissioned and removed as contaminated waste.

Asbestos Paint Removal

A number of surfaces within the building had been painted with an asbestos containing textured paint. Throughout our time on this site, At Pace Solutions developed a method of removing asbestos containing paint materials without the use of abrasive tools to minimise the release of air borne asbestos fibres.

Basement Carpark

The redundant air ducting within the basement carpark of the building was required to be removed to allow the installation of a new system. The inside of the redundant ducting had been contaminated with asbestos containing dust.

At Pace Solutions carried out the deconstruction of the redundant ducting system under asbestos conditions and carried out an environmental clean of the remaining surfaces and services within the area.

Southern Passenger Lifts

At Pace Solutions carried out a detailed environmental clean and fire rating of the southern passenger lift shafts to allow lift contractors to carry out refurbishment works

Northern Stairwell

Following the November 14, 2017 Earthquake, the asbestos paint system contaminated the northern stairwell and prevented the building tenants from accessing their floors.

At Pace Solutions was contracted to carry out an environmental clean and seal of the stairwell to allow safe access to the buildings floors.
